Police seek public’s help in finding JFK field vandals
By Mike BergerThe Canton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the person or people who are responsible for damaging the Kennedy School athletic fields last week.
The fields were extensively damaged by a vehicle. Police have few clues and are asking the public to report any suspicious activity that may have been observed in the area near the fields sometime Friday night, November 7, or Saturday morning, November 8.
“We are looking for the public’s help in seeing if we can find out who is responsible as it is financially taxing to get the fields back to good condition for the baseball season,” Deputy Chief Helena Rafferty said.
Fire chief looking for 50 Emergency Management volunteers
Canton Fire Chief Charlie Doody, who also serves as the town’s emergency management director, is looking for 50 local people ages 18 and older to serve as volunteers for the town’s Emergency Management Response Team.
Doody recently received a $10,000 state grant to train volunteers in the areas of security, communications, first aid, and shelter operations. The goal of the volunteer team is to augment the efforts of the emergency team during weather emergencies and natural disasters. Doody said volunteers do not need to be Canton residents but must live close to the town. Volunteers would need to take a series of classes that will be held at the Canton fire station. After completion of the courses, the volunteer would receive an emergency supply kit and a uniform.
Doody said this is an opportunity for someone to volunteer within the community, improve the quality of life within the town, and earn a certificate in training for emergency management. Those who are interested should call Chief Doody at 781-575-6654 (select the option for the chief) or email him at cdoody@town.canton.ma.us.
