Cottage Quartet to perform benefit at First Parish UU
By Canton CitizenFirst Parish Unitarian Universalist in Canton invites the public to a Thanksgiving weekend concert of chamber music by the Cottage Quartet on Saturday evening, November 29, starting at 7 p.m.
Music Director James Chubet has put together an exciting evening of beautiful music for all to enjoy. The concert will take place in First Parish’s intimate sanctuary, built in 1824, and will prominently feature its Yamaha grand piano.
This family ensemble of professional musicians features Alena Chubet (flute), Anne-Marie Woelker Chubet (violin), Jeannie Woelker (cello), and James Chubet (piano). James grew up in Norwood and he and his wife, Anne-Marie, reside in Westwood. They are both longtime members of the Music Department at Boston College. They are joined by their daughter Alena of Ashland, Oregon, and Anne-Marie’s sister Jeannie of Cutchogue, New York, also professional musicians, for this special event.
Among the composers whose works will be performed are Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel, Gliére, Ibert, and Cole Porter. The musicians will provide informal commentary about the music to be performed throughout the concert.
The suggested donation for adults is $10 (free to students under 18), and all proceeds will go directly to the scholarship program of the Norwood Public Schools’ Music Department in memory of Janice Lewis, longtime office administrator at First Parish who passed away in September. Lewis’ grandchildren were very active in the Music Department at Norwood High School, and Mr. Chubet also benefited immeasurably from his training there many years ago.
First Parish Unitarian Universalist is located at 1508 Washington Street in Canton and there is ample parking available. For more information, go to www.fpuucanton.org.
