Canton’s Kayla Lee wins Russian Music Competition
By Canton CitizenThirteen-year-old Kayla Lee of Canton will perform at Carnegie Hall next month after placing first in the 11th annual Russian Music Competition, held November 2 at M. Steinert & Sons in Boston.
Competing in the Advanced Level A division, Lee performed Variations on a Song by Aliabiev “Nachtingale” by M. Glinka from memory. Earlier this year, she also received the Nancy Oliva Award from the New England Piano Teachers’ Association.
An eighth grader at the Galvin Middle School, Lee has been taking piano lessons with Margarita Gurevich of Stoughton since she was 4 ½ years old. Her performance at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall will take place on December 6 in the Weill Recital Hall alongside other Russian Music Competition winners.
