Community Theatre presents Little Women
By Canton CitizenThis coming weekend, the Canton Community Theatre will proudly present its 2014 holiday production, Little Women. The classic tale is based on a novel by Louisa May Alcott, which was originally published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869.
The Canton Community Theatre has continued to focus its holiday show on productions/stories that many of us grew up with, including Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus (2013) and The Night before Christmas (2012).
This production, adapted by Kristin Lawrence and published by Dramatic Publishing, begins on that memorable Christmas when Marmee leaves to visit her sick husband and Jo sells her beautiful hair to help finance the trip. It ends just a year later when the happy family is again preparing to celebrate not only Christmas, but also the return of Mr. March. In between these two events, audience members live, laugh, love and cry with Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth as they go through the many trials and tribulations that have made this story a classic.
Director John Williams states, “This production is a powerful and emotional rollercoaster that will have the audience wanting for more … what it brings is something that we can all learn about life and living from watching the March family and their little women.”
The cast of Little Women features nine talented local actresses, including Canton residents Bethany Macdonald, Patty Willis, and Renee Hanscom. Also starring in the production are Rosemary Amadeo of Stoughton, Renee Carlson of Brockton, Mahoney Cyr of Walpole, Olivia DeAngelis of Norwood, Audrey Larson of Sharon, and Sloane Zwanger of Cambridge.
Performances are Friday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the Village Shoppes at Cobb’s Corner, 95 Washington Street in Canton (next to the Shoe Dept, across from the Halfway Cafe).
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and are available at the door or online at cantoncommunitytheatre.org. For more information, send an email to jjwcanton@comcast.net.
