After winning just three games all of last season in what amounted to a development year, the CHS girls ice hockey team is already on the verge of matching that total following another dominant performance last week against Norwell. Including a tough 3-0 road loss to four-time state champion Duxbury on Saturday, the Bulldogs are off to a solid 2-1 start and are averaging a whopping 7.33 goals per game behind a resurgent offense featuring several varsity newcomers.

Last Wednesday against Norwell, it was freshman Marissa Devane leading the charge with a pair of goals in the 8-0 blowout victory. Six other Canton players also found the back of the net in the win, including fellow freshmen Mary Thompson (1 goal, 2 assists), Kendra Farrelly (1 goal, 1 assist), and Katie Halloran (1 goal, 1 assist). Senior captain Mary McNeil and sisters Kristen and Rebecca Eckler rounded out the scoring for Canton, while senior captains Kelsey Trerice and Jackie Martin combined for five assists.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a stretch of three straight away games: December 27 against Dover-Sherborn, December 31 against Medway, and January 3 against Falmouth. The girls’ next home is slated for Wednesday, January 7, versus Barnstable.
