News Notes: Deadline for ATM articles is January 9
By Mike BergerThe deadline to submit both zoning and non-zoning articles for the 2015 Annual Town Meeting warrant will close on Friday, January 9, at noon. All warrant articles must be delivered to the Board of Selectmen’s office, 801 Washington Street, Canton, MA 02021.
First snowstorm leads to 2 MV crashes
Police and fire crews responded to two separate motor vehicle crashes within a half hour of each other on Saturday evening, January 3. The accidents occurred within the first few hours of a snowstorm that dumped two inches of snow in Canton before turning to freezing rain and then all rain. The first accident, involving three vehicles, occurred at the intersection of Washington and Chapman streets just after 6 p.m. Two drivers were transported to Norwood Hospital for minor injuries. The second accident occurred approximately 15 minutes later on York Street near the intersection of Waterman Road, and there were no reported injuries.
CPD officers attend NYC police funeral
Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz and officers Rob Quirk and Tim Taylor were among hundreds of area police officers who traveled to New York City to attend the funeral of NYPD Officer Rafael Ramos, who was killed in an ambush along with his partner, Officer Wenjian Liu. Officer Liu’s funeral was delayed until January 4 to accommodate relatives who were traveling from China. The Canton officers flew JetBlue, which paid for their flights. Chief Berkowitz joined other Massachusetts police chiefs on a bus to New York City.
