Individual success highlights mixed week for wrestlers
By Jay TurnerThe Canton High wrestling team posted mixed results last week as the Bulldogs fell to division foe Oliver Ames 50-30 before splitting four matches at the Milton super-quad meet on Saturday.
On an individual level, the team had several notable achievements, including a 4-0 week by senior captain Rob DiCalogero, who continues to dominate opponents in the 145-pound class. DiCalogero also earned his 100th career victory as a Bulldog, becoming just the fifth wrestler in school history to reach that impressive milestone.
Other individual standouts last week included junior Brendan Lewis at 126 lbs., senior Reda Chakir at 152 lbs., and Wavol Prentice at heavyweight, who each four wins and only one loss. Junior Sean Murphy also had an impressive week at 120 lbs., following up his third-place finish at the Peckham Tournament with three wins and one defeat. Other Canton wrestlers earning wins this week were Mike Reese, Caleb Nix, Steven Corkery, Justin Dickie, Jack O’Brien, Alessandro Cipolloni, Cooper Huber and Stathi Dandis.
The Bulldogs (5-7) were due to host Sharon on Wednesday and will compete in the Duxbury Team Tournament on Saturday.
