No one was hurt after a roof collapsed at DXL Group (formerly Casual Male) on Turnpike Street on Tuesday morning, February 10, around 7:15 a.m.

The collapse impacted a 20×20-foot section of roof in the warehouse above the loading dock. Workers were shoveling snow on another portion of the roof at the time of the incident but were able to escape unharmed.

Firefighters evacuated the building and a structural engineer was called in along with Building Commissioner Ed Walsh and a representative from the state Department of Public Safety. All office workers returned to the building, but the area around the loading dock was cordoned off until repairs can be made.

A sprinkler alarm triggered by the roof collapse notified firefighters. Fire Chief Charlie Doody said the collapsed roof was flat and snow drifts were as high as five to six feet.
