CHS soccer star commits to Providence College
By Jay TurnerCanton soccer star Hailee Duserick is headed to the Big East next fall to play for Division 1 Providence College, the Friars announced in a news release last week.
Duserick will join a 2019 freshman class that includes five other New England products: Kayla Steeves of Needham, Elissa Dukeshire of Scituate, Catalina Mazo of Providence, and Katherine Day and Casey Estey of New Hampshire.
“I am excited to welcome Casey, Katie, Hailee, Kayla, Elissa, and Catalina to Friartown,” said head coach Sam Lopes. “First and foremost, they are incredible people with great character and will represent Providence College to the highest degree. This class is a talented and hard working group that’s motivated to contribute to the program as we strive to reach greater heights. They share the Friar passion and I look forward to our journey together.”
Duserick heads to Providence after a stellar four-year varsity career at Canton High School. A standout defender, she served as a team captain her senior year and also led the team with 15 goals while earning All-State honors. She was a two-time All-Scholastic honorable mention, Hockomock League All-Star and Best XI selection, and an Eastern Mass. All-Star. She also was a key contributor on the Bulldogs’ 2011 team that went 19-2-2 and reached the Division 2 state finals. Outside of Canton High, she competed as a U.S. National League player and as a member of New England FC (NEFC).
“I chose PC based on the amazing team culture that has been building each year,” said Duserick. “Between academics and athletics, it just seemed like a perfect fit for me, and I feel I can contribute positively both on and off the field. The PC community is welcoming and assured me I will enjoy the next four years.”
An original member of the Big East Conference, the Friars went 9-8-2 under Lopes this season and qualified for the conference tournament while finishing fifth overall.
