Selena Cho advances to track All-States
By Mike BergerSophomore track standout Selena Cho has earned a trip to the All-State meet after a stellar performance in the 55-meter dash at Saturday’s Division 4 Indoor Track & Field Championship in Boston. Cho placed fourth overall in the event with a personal-best time of 7.60 seconds. She also placed eighth out of 25 competitors in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet.
Other notable performers for Canton at the D4 meet included Liam Collins, who finished eighth in the mile (4:36.68) in a very competitive field; Kenny Ofonagoro, who placed eighth in the long jump (19’10.5”); Mark Clancy, who finished 13th in the two-mile (10:29); and Timmy Gutowski, who placed 14th in the 600 with a personal-best time of 1:29. Junior Catherine Song, Canton’s top female distance runner, has been dealing with an injury but managed to complete the two-mile, finishing 15th with a time of 12:18.
The girls 4×200 relay team of Masha Smirnova, Lena Touzos, Tamarra Auguste, and Tanya Bastien also competed on Saturday, placing 15th with a season-best 1:54.33, while the boys 4×400 team of Collins, Gutowski, Andrew Moy, and Evan Tondre finished 16th in 3:50.93.
