The Canton School Committee will seek a debt-exclusion override at the May annual town meeting in order to fund an eight-room addition at the Hansen Elementary School. The project was originally set at $3.6 million but has since risen to $4.1 million. The override also requires approval on a town ballot.
The Canton Historical Society’s newsletter noted that the Martha Howard petticoat, which is believed to have been created between 1830 and 1840, has been chosen by the Canton Preservation Committee to be considered for a $5,895 grant. It must be approved at the annual Canton town meeting in May of this year.
History buff and former Canton teacher Al D’Attanasio donated an original section of the deck from the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides” to the Canton Historical Society.
Canton-based Dunkin’ Donuts recently struck a deal to open more than 1,400 Dunkin’ Donuts stores in China over the next 20 years. Currently, it has only 16 stores in China. It is the largest development agreement in Dunkin Donuts’ 65-year history. It also signed a franchise agreement to open more than 100 locations throughout Mexico. As of the end of 2014, Dunkin’ Donuts had approximately 3,200 international stores and approximately 8,000 stores in the United States.
