Library to host inaugural Community Volunteer Fair
By Canton CitizenThe Canton Public Library is proud to announce the first annual Canton Community Volunteer Fair, to be held at the library on Thursday, April 16, from 4-8 p.m. The event coincides with National Volunteer Week (April 12-18), which is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.
According to the event’s organizers, the Canton Community Volunteer Fair is a wonderful opportunity for Canton-based nonprofit organizations, community groups, and town agencies to connect with potential volunteers and new members and to showcase their organizations.
“By sharing their gifts and talents, volunteers provide important services to Canton residents in need,” said outreach librarian Carolyn Elkort. “The positive difference that volunteers make goes well beyond the specific service they provide; helping others binds us together and enhances our very sense of community. Their example also can attract others to make a difference by finding their own volunteer opportunity.”
Representatives from local nonprofit organizations will be available to share their missions and available volunteer opportunities. Participating groups include the American Red Cross, Literacy Volunteers of Stoughton, Friends of the Blue Hills, HESSCO Elder Services, the Canton Lions Club, Community Club of Canton, Canton Animal Shelter, Norfolk County RSVP Volunteer Program, and many more.
The volunteer fair is open to adults and teens. For more information or to have your group included, contact Carolyn Elkort at 781-821-5027 or celkort@ocln.org. The deadline for reserving a table is April 1.
