News Notes: 2 motorists arrested for OUI, other charges

In two separate incidents over the Easter weekend, local and State Police assisted in the arrest of two individuals “whose alleged actions upon our roadways put everyone’s safety in jeopardy.”

On Saturday, April 4, around 2 a.m., a Canton police officer was monitoring traffic on Route 138 when he observed a vehicle approaching him at what the officer estimated to be over 100 miles per hour. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued to operate erratically until he came to an abrupt stop on Canton Avenue in Milton. State Police clocked the operator — John Charron, 29, of Somerset — at 116 miles per hour in Milton. He was arrested and charged with OUI liquor, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, failure to stop for a police officer, and failing to wear a safety belt.

In the second incident, on Saturday, April 4, around 11:15 p.m., a Canton patrolman observed a van stopped in the southbound travel lane of routes 138 and 93. The officer was able to awaken the operator, who was unconscious and slumped over the wheel, and put the vehicle in the parked position. Police searched the vehicle and found two grams of heroin and six opiate pills. The operator, Scott Freeman, 41, of Brockton, was arrested and charged with OUI drugs and possession of class A and B substances. Police appreciated the efforts of the Milton PD and State Police for their assistance in both instances.

CPD: Shots fired on Greenlodge St.

On Sunday, April 5, around 7:45 a.m., gunshots were fired on Greenlodge Street and struck a street sign on the overpass leading to Route 95. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Canton Police Department.
