Galvin, House colleagues approve roadway funds
By Canton CitizenRepresentative William Galvin (D-Canton) and his colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives voted last Wednesday to send additional funding to cities and towns for road and bridge repairs.
Canton would stand to receive $780,994 from the $200 million funding bill. The money was divided amongst the communities using the Chapter 90 equation, which is based on a communities’ population and road miles.
“Our roadways are in rough shape after this brutal winter, and some of the potholes present a safety hazard,” Galvin said. “By approving this funding quickly, we will get this money to communities in time for construction season.”
The additional funding now moves to the Senate for its consideration.
Meanwhile, in related news, both Galvin and Senator Brian A. Joyce announced last week that Canton would be receiving an additional $118,127 from the Winter Recovery Assistance Program.
Also using the Chapter 90 formula to distribute funds, the Winter Recovery Assistance Program provides for the repair of potholes and the replacing of road safety apparatus damaged by the recent winter. This includes signs, storm grates, road paint, and guardrails.
