GMS students learn valuable lessons from fundraiser
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
Over the past several months, the students and staff in room 106 at the Galvin Middle School have learned so much about the power of hope and tenacity and the goodness of those around us, including many local businesses. Through our Million Penny Project, we were able to raise a total of $5,609 for Cops for Kids with Cancer, of which $5,000 was donated to the family of Allisa Freiberger, an 8-year-old Westwood girl who has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Last Friday, the family received the check at a cookout hosted by the Canton Police Department. Allisa’s mother, Nanette, was overwhelmed at the outpouring of support and kindness showed by all in attendance, among them Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Granatino, principals Dr. Bill Conard, Derek Folan and David Brauninger, and Interim Superintendent Jennifer Henderson. Nanette was greatly touched by the kindness of the Canton Police Department, especially Chief Ken Berkowitz and Deputy Chief Helena Rafferty, who is also the president of Cops for Kids with Cancer. The students of classroom 106 and their parents were greatly humbled by their efforts leading to this final, wonderful event.
Sincerely,
Rumni Saha
