‘Black Lives Matter’ sign sent a positive message
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
I was thrilled to see the “Black Lives Matter” poster on the corner of Washington and Revere streets last week. For me, it was much more than a reminder that young Canton men willingly gave their lives to end slavery during the Civil War. It was a recognition of the sorrow we feel that nine African Americans were brutally murdered while praying at their church. It was an acknowledgement that throughout American history, black people have been subjected to terrorist acts designed to keep them afraid and in their place. And it was an announcement, at least on the part of one of our local heroes, Tony Andreotti, that Canton should be a safe haven for our African American neighbors.
