Water Dept. announces water restriction
By Canton CitizenThe following alert regarding outdoor water usage was recently submitted by the Canton Water Department.
In an effort to conserve water and alleviate low water pressure in various areas of town, the Water Department, through the Board of Selectmen, are requesting that all residents and businesses refrain from outdoor watering between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. We are also requesting that outdoor watering be further restricted to an even/odd schedule through the end of September, when temperatures and water use is expected to moderate. Even-number addresses can water on even-numbered days and odd-number address can water on odd-number days of the month.
Reports of low water pressure in certain areas of Canton have been experienced. The town normally uses (approximately on average) 3 million gallons per day and is currently using upwards of 5 million gallons per day. The town closely monitors water consumption on a town-wide basis via its Scada computerized tracking system, which tracks daily water use and reports that information to DPW Water Division staff members.
With your help and cooperation we can reduce water system demands and ensure that prioritized water uses for such things as drinking, cooking, cleaning and bathing are not impacted. With your cooperation, this will help to alleviate pressure issues within the town. If you have any questions, please contact the Water Department at 781-821-5017.
