Teamsters money should be donated
By Canton CitizenThe Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance is dedicated to promoting a more efficient and accountable state government. In the spirit of accountability, we are asking state Rep. William C. Galvin (D-Canton) to donate to the charity of his choice $500 — an amount equal to the amount donated to his campaign by the Teamsters this year.
Four members of the Teamsters have been indicted on federal charges of extortion stemming from strong-arm tactics used against the “Top Chef” cast and crew during an episode filmed in Boston. By donating $500, Rep. Galvin will send a clear message to the Teamsters and to his constituents that he believes organizations must be held accountable for their actions. While the donation was certainly legally made, those funds have become associated with the reprehensible actions of its members, including threats and racial and sexist name-calling.
Unions will go to any length to exert their influence, and in politics, money is influence. We hope Rep. Galvin will show that he is not influenced by this tainted donation by the Teamsters and give it away to a charity of his choice. Please contact Rep. Galvin’s office at 617-722-2692 and urge him to not be influenced by the Teamsters.
