‘Raising Matty Christian’ to be released on DVD
By Canton CitizenRaising Matty Christian, an acclaimed feature-length documentary about the life of Canton’s Matthew G. Christian (1983-2009), will be available on DVD beginning tomorrow, November 20.
Winner of nine film festival awards nationally, Raising Matty Christian was directed by Rhode Island-based filmmaker Christian de Rezendes under his company Breaking Branches Pictures. The film is an inspiring profile on the late Canton man who was born without full limbs and a tongue.
The creators of the film will host a DVD release party tomorrow evening at Brookmeadow Country Club, located at 100 Everendon Road in Canton. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Executive producers and Matty’s parents Allie and Jerry Christian, the filmmakers, and members of the cast will be on hand to greet people, and DVDs will be available for purchase on site.
Among the honors Raising Matty Christian received across 2014 and 2015 were the Audience Award for Best of the Fest at Woods Hole Film Festival, the Human Spirit Award at the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival in Ohio, Best Professional Documentary at the Real to Reel International Film Festival in North Carolina, and Best Biography Documentary at Bare Bones International Film and Music Festival in Oklahoma. A special screening was also held by the Museum of disABILITIES History in Buffalo, New York. In May 2015, Raising Matty Christian had a special screening at the Doc Corner of the Marche du Film at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
Richard Propes, best known as the Indianapolis-based “Independent Critic,” described the film by saying, “There are film experiences that turn you into a different human being … Raising Matty Christian is just that type of film.”
“This is just the beginning of a larger plan,” said Allie Christian. “Our goal is to get Raising Matty Christian seen by those young and old who need to see it the most, so he can affect their lives in a positive way. We intend to work with schools for special screenings and speaking engagements for as wide an exposure as possible. Matty’s story will live on.”
From the morning of November 20 on, Raising Matty Christian will be available for purchase online at www.raisingmattychristian.com. It will also be available for purchase at Republic Plumbing Supply, located at 890 Boston Providence Highway (Route 1) in Norwood.
