Surging boys hockey team topples KP, Taunton
By Jay TurnerThe Canton High boys ice hockey team made it three wins in a row with a pair of road victories last week over Kelley-Rex opponents King Philip and Taunton.
With the victories, the Bulldogs improved to a league-best 6-1-1 on the season and now sit atop the Davenport Division with a perfect 3-0 mark in Hockomock League contests.
In Wednesday’s game versus KP at the Foxboro Sport Center, Canton eked out a 2-1 win behind big games from senior captain Bobby Mullaney and senior Seamus Pecararo, who each finished with a goal and an assist.
The Bulldogs then traveled to Aleixo Rink on Saturday and knocked off a seven-win Tigers team by a final score of 3-1. The game featured an exciting stretch in the second period in which the teams scored three goals in a three-minute span, including one by Mike Dadasis and another by Pecararo. Senior captain Matt Lazaro would later add his fourth of the season in the third period to give the visitors a two-goal cushion. Senior goalie Justin Slocum and the defense also did their part to preserve the victory for the Bulldogs.
This week, Canton was due to face Stoughton on Tuesday in a game in which longtime team manager Matty Marcone was scheduled to play his first varsity shift. The Bulldogs will then host Milford on Martin Luther King Day at the Canton Sportsplex starting at 1 p.m.
