Several CHS track team members qualify for D4 meet

Six individuals from the CHS boys and girls indoor track teams and two relay teams have qualified for the Division 4 Championship Meet, scheduled for Friday, February 12, at 4 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The CHS qualifiers include Selena Cho in the 55m and long jump, Cat Song in the mile and two-mile, Pat Hession in the 300m and 600m, Nicole Brown (55m), Hannah Link (300m), Mark Clancy (two-mile), and the girls 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams.

This past weekend, the Hockomock League held its championship meet with the girls finishing ninth and the boys finishing 10th.

In the girls meet, Song had the highest finish as she placed fourth overall in the two-mile with a time of 12:13.96.

Cho also had a strong meet, placing fifth in the 55m dash and 10th in the long jump. Link finished fifth in the 300m and was part of the 4×200 relay team that placed fourth overall along with Brown, Cho, and Tanya Bastien. The other top relay (4×400) ran seventh behind Maggie Dunn, Sam Koplik, Sarah Collins, and Lauren Peplau.

Other placements included Collins and Peplau, who finished 14th and 17th, respectively, in the 600m; Bastien, 16th, 300m; Brown, 18th, 55m; and Margaret Polsgrove, 19th, mile. In the field events, Bastien and Koplik tied for 12th in the high jump, and Kelly Dever finished 18th in the shot put.

For the boys team, Clancy led the way with a fifth-place finish in the two-mile (10:18.12), and Hession placed sixth in the 600m in 1:28.22. The boys 4×200 relay turned in a 10th-place finish behind Steven Brady, Nick Kuk, Will Amico, and Jason Kaplan.

Kaplan, Evan Tondre, and Amico also competed in the 55m and placed 30th, 32nd, and 35th. Oren Vishny, Kuk, and Brady were similarly bunched together in the 300m, placing 29th, 30th and 32nd. Other finishers included Mike Mazzola, 26th, 1,000m; Courtland Priest, 19th, mile; and Kyle Morrison, 33rd, mile.

In the field events, Ben Mendillo threw for 26th in the shot put, while Vishny and Tondre placed 27th and 28th, respectively, in the long jump.
