Suggested remedies for planners’ attendance problems

Dear Editor:

In response to Man About Canton’s January 28 commentary on meeting attendance by the Planning Board (Canton planners not showing up), I submit the following suggestions:

Change the term of office from five years to three and change the makeup of the board to three members elected and two appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The membership should also receive a reasonable stipend for their service.

Further, I see little need for a full-time town planner. The board would be better served by hiring qualified consultants when needed.
