School Committee announces choice for superintendent
By Canton CitizenThe Canton School Committee announced on Friday that it has selected Jennifer Fischer-Mueller as the new superintendent of schools. The appointment will take effect July 1, pending contract negotiations.
Currently the deputy superintendent for teaching and learning in the Brookline Public Schools, Dr. Fischer-Mueller was chosen as the finalist by a search committee and interviewed with the School Committee on Thursday, February 11.
John Bonnanzio, who chaired the search committee, said they interviewed eight candidates from an initial pool of 26 applicants before recommending Dr. Fischer-Mueller as their final choice.
A former science teacher, Dr. Fischer-Mueller has served in her current role in Brookline since 2002. Prior to that, she held administrative positions in Amherst, New Hampshire, and also served a stint as co-director of education at the Interaction Institute for Social Change in Cambridge.
Dr. Fischer-Mueller earned a doctorate in science education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, a Master of Arts in Teaching in biology with math concentration, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of New Hampshire.
Additional details regarding her appointment will be released after the contract is signed and ratified.
