Thanks to the efforts of the Canton Memorial Bow Project, hundreds of pink and green bows have been hung across the community as a show of support for the families of Kaleigh Kenyon and Thomas Gunning. The bows, made by an army of volunteers at the Canton Senior Center and paid for solely with donations, can be seen on telephone poles, mailboxes, doors, signs, and even school buses and are expected to remain in place through the end of February.

Project organizer CJ King was planning to distribute the final batch of bows earlier this week, and any remaining donated funds that were not used to purchase materials will be divided evenly and “will go to the families in a special way,” King said.

Donations were also left with the Canton MOMS Club, which made and distributed hundreds of bows for residents, and half of the funds were given to the Thomas J. Gunning Scholarship Fund while the other half was used to purchase library books in honor of Kaleigh Kenyon.

In addition to the bow project, the Canton Public Schools have also done its part to memorialize and honor both victims. Last Thursday, students and staff across the district wore pink or red in honor of Kenyon, a kindergartener at the Luce School, and then wore green on Friday in honor of Gunning, a lifelong Cantonite and a father of three boys.

At Canton High School, the Student Council designed special t-shirts featuring a green and pink ribbon and have sold nearly 1,100 to date, with all proceeds going to the Kenyon and Gunning families. At the Galvin Middle School, the Student Leadership Council sold pins designed by students and planned to donate all proceeds to charities established by each family.
