Local Jewish community to hold annual Mitzvah Day
By Canton CitizenThe South Area Jewish community will join hands on Sunday, April 10, in a joint Social Action Mitzvah Day embraced by temples and other Jewish organizations in Canton and surrounding communities.
The CHAI South Area Temple Collaboration represents many of the temples, synagogues, and Jewish organizations in the South Area who have united across denominations for joint social action activities that serve the local community. The Hebrew word “mitzvah” means “good deed.”
Individuals and families from the entire South Area Jewish community are invited to participate in a variety of activities on April 10, including working at a lemonade stand to raise funds to fight childhood illnesses, creating and planting flower pots to deliver to senior living facilities, preparing food for Father Bill’s and homeless shelters, collecting food for disadvantaged families through Family Table, making blankets for donation, landscaping and beautification of a shelter, and more.
Organizations participating in CHAI Social Action Mitzvah Day include Temple Beth Abraham/Temple Shaare Tefilah of Canton, Temple Beth David of Canton, Temple Sinai of Sharon, Temple Israel of Sharon, Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, Temple Chayai Shalom of Easton, and Temple B’nai Shalom of Braintree.
