Lack of races leads to abysmal turnout for 2016 election

By

Only 334 (2.3 percent) of the town’s registered voters turned out at the polls in Canton’s 2016 town election held on Tuesday, April 5.

The ballot featured 10 candidates for 10 available seats, marking the fourth time in the last six years that Canton did not have any contested races.

Reelected to office were incumbents John Connolly (Selectmen), William Galvin (Assessors), Michael Loughran (School Committee), Glen Hannington (Housing Authority), Emily Prigot (Library Trustees), Kathy Fox Alfano (Library Trustees), and Margaret Mead (Library Trustees).

Three newcomers were also elected on Tuesday, including Ruth Slattery on the Board of Health, Meghan Gannon on the School Committee, and Thomas Scully on the Planning Board.
