Hundreds turn out for ‘Not Quite the Marathon’ 5K
By Jay TurnerMore than 270 runners descended on downtown Canton this past Sunday for the second annual “Not Quite the Marathon” 5K, a charity race to benefit the local nonprofit organization Cops for Kids with Cancer.
Race organizer Laura Donahue hailed it as a major success as the event raised nearly $8,000, all of which will be used to support families caught in the web of pediatric cancer.
“I’d like to thank the residents for being so great about the inconvenience, and let them know that we will be able to support nearly two families with this event,” she said.
Donahue also expressed her gratitude to Gerry and Brigid Meehan, owners of Waterfall Bar & Grille for hosting the event, as well as race sponsors LoJack, Honey Dew (375 Neponset Street), A Meadow Inc., Bank of Canton, Sam Adams, Wegmans, and the many companies who donated raffle prizes.
Donahue said there were many others who deserve thanks, including DJ Patrick Lally, the Canton High lacrosse team and coaching staff, the Boston Police Academy Class 55-15, the Canton, Seekonk and Boston police departments, Dana Viverito, and everyone who ran or walked in the race.
“This event would not have been a success without every person that came out to support Cops for Kids with Cancer on Sunday,” said Donahue.
