Obituary: Charlie Stevenson, 102
By Canton CitizenCharles E. Stevenson, Sr., 102, of Canton, passed away April 17 at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton.
Born in Billerica, he attended St. John’s Grammar School and graduated from Canton High School, Class of 1932. He was the deputy director of the Division of Employment and Security for the commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years before retiring.
Charlie was the head football coach for Canton High School from 1944 to 1957 and was also the coach of the Canton Town Club football team from 1943 to 1956 and was inducted into the Mass. High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Canton Town Club, Knights of Columbus Council #2095 in Canton, and a member of the Legion of Mary in Canton.
Beloved husband for 77 years of the late Mary N. (Melfie). Father of Isabelle Toomey and her husband, John, of Canton, Carol Stevenson of Marstons Mills, Joan DiGiacomo of Norwood, and Charles E. Stevenson, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Milton. Also survived by eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Grandfather of the late Steven Riquelme.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.
