On April 23, John Dineen retired after being in the auto repair business for over 60 years. John started working at his father’s auto business when he was 12 years old. In 1987, he started his own business in Canton and recently moved it from Bailey Street to 391 Washington Street, in a building owned by the Wentworth family. John is a well-known Canton legionnaire and Vietnam veteran who has served as the Canton American Legion Post 24 commander.

Recently, the Wentworth family sold their property for $600,000 to the Vaness Limited Liability Company. The farmhouse was built in 1876, and the garage in 1916 by Nathanial Newcomb Wentworth, who started the Wentworth Mortar Company. And up until Saturday, John Dineen operated his auto repair shop in this historical building. Good luck in your retirement, John!

In October 2015, CHS Athletic Director Danny Erickson and CHS Principal Derek Folan unveiled a new Canton Bulldogs logo to the School Committee. The new logo was designed by the Adidas Group with input from school and community leaders. The logo includes a letter “C” design with a shape that mirrors the arches on the Canton viaduct, as well as a specially designed bulldog. Erickson told the committee that the logo “identifies who we are and our value of community and tradition.” Both Folan and Erickson said they were looking into trademarking the new logo.

Speaking of Danny Erickson, the School Committee hopes to hire a part-time social studies teacher at Canton High so that Erickson can work as a full-time administrator. Presently, out of 20 nearby communities, Canton is one of only three that has an athletic director who also teaches a class.

Gymnastics and water aerobics instructors are needed for the Canton Parks and Recreation Department. Job applications are available at the department office at 92 Pleasant Street or online at www.cantonrec.com.

This past hockey season, senior captain Matt Lazaro became the first Canton High School player since Bryan Rooney to reach 100 career points. Lazaro led CHS to its fifth straight Hockomock Davenport Division title …
