Jerrier goes the distance in win vs. Fairhaven
By Mike BergerEvery playoff team needs two or more good starters, and senior Griffin Jerrier answered the call for Canton last week as he led the Bulldogs to a 5-3 victory last week against Fairhaven.
Jerrier threw a complete game and also helped himself at the plate, finishing 2 for 3 with an RBI. Joe Peccia also had two hits and two RBIs, and Kevin Powers chipped in with two hits and two runs scored.
Commenting on the victory, head coach JP Scott said, “Fairhaven was a very energetic team who played very well. We jumped on them in one inning and scored the majority of our runs, but it was a very competitive game and a big win for us.”
The Bulldogs also traveled to North Attleboro last week but came up short in an eventual 5-1 loss. Powers drew the start and held the Rocketeers scoreless through four innings. But NA scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a couple of errors and tacked on two more runs in the sixth. Sean Doyle knocked in Canton’s lone run with an RBI double in the top of the fifth.
The Bulldogs (2-3) had three league games scheduled for this week, including road games against Milford and Stoughton and a home contest tomorrow against Sharon starting at 3:45 p.m. Canton will then host Attleboro on Monday, May 2, and will travel to Dean College to take on Franklin on Wednesday, May 4.
