Fitness center a fitting legacy to Scott Herr
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
The Canton High School Athletic Department would like to recognize the continued efforts of the Scott Herr Foundation on behalf of Canton High School’s Scott Herr Fitness Center.
In the winter of 2011, Canton High School opened the Scott Herr Fitness Center — a state-of-the-art fitness training center that is used by hundreds of CHS students each year. The center was named for Scott Herr, a 2009 graduate of Canton High School who tragically lost his life in a car accident just seven months after graduating from CHS. The loss is still deeply felt in the halls of CHS.
Scotty’s love for CHS athletics lives on in the fitness center. This has been in no small part to the devotion of his family: his dad, Joe, his mom, Linda, and his brother, Joey. Together they have created the Scott Herr Foundation, which funds scholarships as well as the operating expenses of the fitness center. Without the support that the foundation receives from the public, the Scott Herr Fitness Center would not be able to function.
In recent years a new floor, new equipment, and new professional training programs have all enhanced the Herr Center. This is in no small part a result of the support of the Scott Herr Foundation.
On behalf of Canton High School, I want to publicly thank the Herrs and the foundation they have created in their son’s memory for all of their support in keeping the Herr Center a state-of-the-art facility.
