The South Coast Rail Project is still moving ahead as the Massachusetts Department of Transportation recently included additional funding of $148 million over the next five years. The project will have rail service from Boston through Canton and Stoughton to Taunton, Fall River, and New Bedford.
The Northland Residential Company has proposed building 70 townhouse condominiums for people age 55 and older on the 46-acre Carberry Estate at 1672-1726 Canton Avenue, which is next to the Blue Hills Reservation and just over the Canton town line. The estate was once owned by Robert Wolcott, a former governor of Massachusetts at the end of the 19th century. The units would cost between $1 million and $1.2 million, certainly not cheap. A zoning change will be needed and will be considered at the October 2016 special town meeting. Under the existing zoning rules, between 22 and 23 single-family homes could be built on the property. Under Chapter 40, “the anti-snob” zoning law, more than 70 units could be developed and would not need zoning changes and most town approvals.

From MAC’s trivia file: The first 55 picks of the 2015 baseball draft were all offered signing bonuses of at least $1 million. The first two picks signed for $6 million. There is big money in the baseball world.
Talking about baseball, the knuckleball pitch is actually thrown with the fingernails, not the knuckles, and there is very little explanation of what makes the pitch so baffling.
Jack Nicklaus said, “If you win every time you don’t learn anything. You don’t learn anything about yourself. You don’t learning anything about the other person. You don’t learn anything about the game. You don’t learn anything about life.”
That is all for now folks. See you next week.
