The people have spoken
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
The presidential campaigns are moving toward the selection of which two candidates are going to be facing each other in the fall general election. One party has a presumptive nominee, Donald Trump. However, some of the members of that party don’t like that he was the winner of the primary contest. Americans, however, have to admire former Vice President Dick Cheney and certainly former presidential candidate and World War II POW John McCain, who both support Trump. Senator McCain is running for reelection in Arizona, where 50 percent of the children in school are Hispanic. He says of Trump that the people have spoken, and they want Trump.
We need to listen to the voters as they are sending a message. The message is clear that they want Washington and government policies to change. The voters want new leaders, not the ones who have failed to show leadership in the Middle East and in managing our economy. Our government has failed to confront Islamic terrorism. For example, the Islamic terrorist officer who shot and killed fellow soldiers in Texas was called “workplace violence” by our government. One of the shooting victims had just come back from Iraq and was pregnant with her first child.
I didn’t vote for Donald Trump, but Marco Rubio. However, many of my friends voted for Trump because they thought he would change Washington and America would be better for it. I think the opposition and the ones who usually control the leadership need to “get over it.” They’re having a temper tantrum. Is Donald Trump perfect? Of course not, but he put up his own money to win the campaign against 17 other candidates. His inner circle is of course his family and many others who share his views. His family has no bad reports. His business is a success with some bumps not unlike other businesses. That’s why they put erasers on pencils.
As a World War II veteran with two years on a heavy cruiser (three battle stars), with six great-grandchildren and at the age of 94 years old, I am willing to give Donald Trump a chance to lead us and unite us.
