The Norfolk County Mosquito Control Project has begun its 2016 late evening ULV adulticide aerosol ground applications to control adult mosquitos, according to the Canton Board of Health.

Spraying was slated to begin on or around May 31, weather permitting, and will continue through September 29. The spraying will be conducted in participating Norfolk County towns between sunset and midnight, Mondays through Thursdays. In most cases, spraying will take place in Canton on Wednesday nights.

Individuals who would like to see a map of areas to be treated may go to norfolkcountymosquito.org/service-request and then enter their address.

The ULV map will be posted on or about 3:30 p.m. the day of the scheduled application. Residents may also call 617-582-6216 after 3:30 p.m. the day of the scheduled treatment to receive information detailing the streets/areas to be treated in the town.

The purpose of the adulticide application is to control nuisance and/or virus-carrying adult mosquitoes. The control product being used is Zenivex applied in ultra-low volume (ULV) sprayers at a rate of approximately one half ounce per acre of finished spray.

Residents who wish to exclude their property from being sprayed may do so by following the process outlined in State Regulation 333 CMR:13:03. For more information on excluding a property from mosquito ground spraying, visit norfolkcountymosquito.org/ulv-spray-exclusion.
