Matty Marcone documentary premieres Monday at CHS
By Jay TurnerHe inspired an entire community back in January with his unforgettable “one shift” against the rival Stoughton Black Knights, and now Canton’s Matty Marcone will get the star treatment yet again as the subject of a new documentary film celebrating his “life and spirit.”
One Shift: The Story of Matty Marcone will premiere on Monday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Canton High School auditorium. The screening is free and open to the public, although donations are welcome and will be given to a charity of Marcone’s choice.
Filmed and produced by three of his CHS classmates — Jason Kaplan, Steve Gorham and Michael Noone — One Shift presents an honest yet heartwarming portrait of the young man known as “The Mayor” through the eyes of family members, friends, teachers, coaches, and Marcone himself. It examines the many obstacles he has faced and continues to face — both medically and developmentally — and how, with a strong support system and plenty of positive thinking, he has pressed on and enjoyed a full and productive life.
One Shift also follows Marcone, the longtime CHS boys ice hockey manager and a hockey fanatic, as he prepares to take the ice for his first varsity shift and captures the excitement and raw emotion in the arena as he buried the game-tying goal.
The screening promises to be emotional and uplifting, and the filmmakers are hoping for a large turnout, which they said would “mean a lot” to the Marcone family.
In a recent Facebook post, Kaplan described Marcone as an “inspiration” to his family, teammates, friends, teachers, and the community. “You do not want to miss this opportunity to be a part of Matty’s life,” he said.
The film has a run time of approximately 30 minutes, and doors to the auditorium will open at 7 p.m. Visit the events page on Facebook for details on the premiere.
