Kidney donor grateful for community support

By

Editor’s note: The following is an update from Nancy Cahillane Connor, a Canton native and Galvin Middle School educational assistant who volunteered to donate a kidney to her nephew’s mother-in-law. Connor, who was profiled in the May 12 edition of the Citizen, underwent successful transplant surgery on June 1 at St. Barnabus Medical Center (NJ) and is now at home recovering.

Dear Canton community:

pillowThank you for all of the love and support I am receiving through this amazing journey. I’m really not sure if the full impact of donating my kidney has even hit me yet. All of your cards, texts, and positive messages have kept me upbeat and strong through this process. Stephanie is doing wonderful and is feeling stronger every day. We now refer to each other as “Sista” and have decided to name our kidney. Since we are both huge Patriots fans, Steph suggested we call it “Gronk,” who is big, strong, and resilient. So now we refer to our kidney as “Baby Gronk.” The joy I feel in seeing Stephanie smile or hearing her laugh is unexplainable. Hopefully our story will spread the miracle that is organ donation.

Sincerely,

Nancy Cahillane Connor
