John H. “Jack” Flood of Norton, formerly of Canton, died unexpectedly at home July 26, 2016. He was 77 years old.

flood2Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy and dedicated his life to public service. He was a former public defender in Wrentham District Court and was the state representative for Canton and Randolph for 10 years. In 1996, Governor Weld appointed Jack Norfolk County Sheriff, where he served until 1999. At the end of his public career, he was the director of substance abuse services for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. Jack has also been a gubernatorial and senatorial candidate. He graduated from Northeastern University and Suffolk Law.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Brenda (Donlan) Flood, of Norton. Loving father of Amy E. Fisher and her husband, Neal, of Walpole, Katy F. Risher and her husband, Dan, of Sterling, VA, Kerry A. Flood of Norton, Nancy N. Flood of Roslindale, and Mary F. Mahon and her husband, Brian, of Fairfield, CT. Loving brother of Daniel J. Flood of Canton, Ellen Stonis of Punta Gorda, FL, and the late Mary MacLeod and Susan Flood. Proud and loving “Pa” to Alison, Kelly, Megan, Johnny, Liam, Declan, Claire, and Eamonn.

A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to Boston Children’s Hospital, Attn: The Heart Foundation, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA, 02115.
