News Notes: Pokemon Go causes dangerous road situation
By Mike BergerCanton Police Officer Rob Quirk, who manages the CPD’s official Twitter account, tweeted on July 27 that three officers had to remove three teenagers from the double line of a main road. Passing motorists notified police after seeing the teens in the road around 11 p.m. on July 26. The culpit, said Quirk, was “Pokemon Go,” the popular new mobile game. Added Quirk, “‘Game over’ takes on a whole new meaning when video games intersect with reality.”
Firefighters extinguish small mulch fires
Canton firefighters responded to two mulch fires on July 26 — one on Revere Street and the other on Dan Road, both of which were likely caused by discarded cigarette materials. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury emphasized that discarded cigarette butts present a serious fire hazard, especially with the recent dry conditions.
In another call, firefighters had to shut down the on-ramp to Route 93 for five minutes around 5:15 p.m. on July 25 after utility wires fell onto the road. Firefighters secured the lines until Verizon arrived on the scene.
