Canton Historical Society announces fall fundraisers
By Canton CitizenThe Canton Historical Society is a private, nonprofit organization, incorporated in 1893 for the purpose of collecting and preserving everything related to the history, topography, and family genealogy of the town of Canton. In the past year, the society held a special exhibit for the town at the Canton Public Library featuring many of its rare artifacts and articles recently preserved with monies raised from various fundraisers.
Recently, a Canton family was able to unlock a window into their father’s World War II days with the assistance of the Historical Society, where they had gathered for a family reunion. The society also holds an open house on the second Sunday of every month, where guests can walk around, view the artifacts on display, and talk with society historians. Over 200 years of Canton history are stored in this building along with the stories of the men and women who developed the town.
To fund this ongoing maintenance and preservation of the town’s historic gems and the museum, the Canton Historical Society will be holding two fundraisers this fall.
The first is a yard sale (no clothing), which will take place outside the Canton Public Library on Saturday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The second event is an Antique Appraisal Afternoon, scheduled for Sunday, October 23, from 2-5 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. Appraisals are limited to two items per person — $10 for one or $15 for two.
To volunteer for either of these events or to donate anything to the yard sale, contact Marie Duffy at 781-828-1480, Carol Munson at 781-828-1670, or Patti Comeau at 781-828-6980.
Historical Society members hope that residents will recognize the importance of preserving Canton’s history for future generations and drop by and support their efforts — and help keep Canton history alive.
