Duserick named NE-10 Defensive Player of the Week
By Jay TurnerCanton native and CHS graduate Brianna Duserick was recently honored as the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Stonehill Skyhawks to their seventh and eighth victories during the week of September 25 to October 1.
Duserick, a senior defender, was one of three Stonehill players to earn NE-10 honors that week, joining Goalkeeper of the Week Jamie Block and Rookie of the Week Elizabeth Nerger.
The former Bulldog standout anchored the back line in consecutive shutout victories over Assumption, 1-0, and Saint Michael’s, 3-0. Duserick also chipped in two assists — one against Assumption as she took a free kick from about 40 yards out and the other off a short corner kick against Saint Michael’s.
A fourth-year player, Duserick has started all 12 games so far this season and has seven points, including a goal and five assists. Stonehill (10-2-1) is off to its best start since 1999 and entered play this week ranked No. 4 in the nation in the NSCAA Division II poll.
The Skyhawks were due to host the University of New Haven on Wednesday and will honor Duserick and the rest of the senior class prior to its next home game against Pace University on Saturday, October 15.
The daughter of Juanita and Peter Duserick of Canton, Brianna is the eldest of four soccer-playing siblings. Her sister Hailee plays for Division 1 Providence College; her sister Riley is a junior on the CHS girls soccer team; and her brother Cole is a senior on the CHS boys team.
