Humboldt Truck Pull raises $14K for Special Olympics
By Canton CitizenOn Sunday, October 16, Canton-based moving company Humboldt Storage and Moving held its fifth annual Humboldt Truck Pull to benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts. This year, the event was held at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton.
Over $14,000 was raised by Truck Pull participants and spectators. Since its inception, the event has raised close to $65,000 and seeks to continually raise funds as well as awareness for Special Olympics MA. The funds raised help support more than 11,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics MA year-round programming.
At the event, seven teams of 10 individuals had the chance to pull a full-sized tractor trailer, a box truck, an ambulance, and a fire engine. Teams came from all walks of life, including team members from Humboldt, RSM, Fallon Ambulance Service, Hajjar’s Bar & Grille, and the Boston Irish Wolfhounds rugby club. The team with the lowest pull average is the winner. This year’s winner was “Hajjar’s Heroes” of Hajjar’s Bar & Grille in Weymouth.
The Humboldt Truck Pull also featured a free “Touch-a-Truck” family friendly exhibition and great local raffles prizes. The Touch-a-Truck exhibition provided a unique opportunity for children to explore and climb on vehicles of all types — public service, emergency, utility, construction, transportation, and delivery — all in one place.
