News Notes: Motor vehicle crash leads to B&E charges
By Canton CitizenA Canton man and two other men from Stoughton will be summoned to court to face charges of breaking and entering into a vehicle following a two-car accident on Pleasant Street on Sunday, November 6, around 11:45 a.m.
The driver of one of the vehicles, Albert G. Smith IV, 18, of Stoughton, faces additional charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop and yield. The other two men, Kyle Duarte, 19, of Canton, and Timothy Norton, 19, of Stoughton, face the B&E charges.
Police Lt. Patty Sherrill said the three were in a vehicle traveling up Fencourt Road toward Pleasant Street. They turned left onto Pleasant Street but allegedly did not stop at the stop sign and collided head on with another vehicle. After interviewing witnesses, Sherrill said police determined that these same individuals had been seen breaking into a motor vehicle just prior to the collision. They were seen removing a backpack from a vehicle and then driving away at a high rate of speed. It was moments later that the collision occurred.
No injury in Greenlodge/Elm St. accident
The driver of a vehicle that veered off the road at the intersection of Greenlodge and Elm streets early Saturday morning, November 5, was able to extricate himself and did not require EMT assistance. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury said firefighters received a call for the accident around 3:15 a.m.
In another call last week, four Canton firefighters responded to a two-alarm house fire off Buckminster Drive in Norwood on Friday, November 4, at 1:40 p.m. Canton firefighters assisted with overhaul operations. On Sunday, November 6, at 10:32 a.m., firefighters were called to a commercial building at 255 Revere Street for a heating/electrical problem on the roof. Firefighters ventilated the building and it was later cleared for re-occupancy.
Earl Newhouse Waterfront to close after Nov. 15
The Earl Newhouse Waterfront area along Reservoir Pond will close after November 15 for the winter and reopen on April 1. No open fires are allowed in the waterfront area without a permit from the Fire Department.
