CAASA to open info and drop-in centers

By

The Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse (CAASA) is working with Town Hall, the Council on Aging, Canton Public Library, and the Parks & Recreation, Health, Police, and Fire-Rescue departments to place information centers in their locations with substance abuse prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery resources for the public.

Alliance 1CAASA Chairman Nick Pirelli said information centers should be available the first week of February.

CAASA is also meeting with a working group next week to plan drop-in centers to be held either monthly or quarterly for the public to come together and learn about local and state resources while building a relationship with CAASA.

“The drop-ins will be an opportunity to dive deep into the material at the information centers, meet CAASA members, and bridge a connection to intervention and recovery resources,” he said.

The drop-in centers should also begin in February. The next CAASA meeting will be held on Monday, January 23, at 3:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office on Pleasant Street.

In other substance abuse news, Canton Fire Department EMS Coordinator Jamie Meier reported four overdoses and one fatality in the month of December. The fatality occurred between December 19 and 25 and the victim was a male in his 30s. Overall in 2016, there were 25 overdoses and three fatalities reported in Canton.
