MABA announces opening of new Birdscapes exhibit
By Canton CitizenThe Museum of American Bird Art in Canton announces the opening of its newest exhibit, Birdscapes, featuring recent oil paintings by James Coe, on Sunday, January 29.
There will be a gallery talk at 2:30 p.m. and an opportunity to meet the acclaimed artist. Featured in this show will be nearly three dozen oil paintings that represent Coe’s love of nature and a dozen small oil-on-paper studies that have never been exhibited before.
The gallery will be open from 1-5 p.m. and admission for the opening is free. Light refreshments will be served.
A birder since the age of 12, Coe combines his love for and deep knowledge of the natural world with his skills as an artist to create beautiful, contemplative studies of birds and their natural surroundings. He studied biology at Harvard University and painting at Parsons School of Design. He has spent more than 30 years melding art and science into life as a naturalist, field guide, illustrator, and landscape and wildlife artist. Today he paints full-time, working both in plein air and in his studio, and he is the recipient of national and international awards.
This exhibit will run from Sunday, January 29, to Sunday, May 14. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Admission is free for Mass Audubon members; for nonmembers, admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children and seniors.
The Museum of American Bird Art is located at 963 Washington Street in Canton. For more information, call 781-821-8853 or visit massaudubon.org/maba.
