It’s time to wake up and resist

By

Dear Editor:

I was saddened to see that the Ringling Bros. Circus was folding its tents after over 100 years of entertainment across the USA. But I was soon heartened by the fact that a new circus based in Washington, D.C., was emerging. The new owner/ringmaster has promised that his circus will indeed be like none other. He will hire and use an inordinate number of clowns, a bevy of parrots, and a house full of lap dogs. He has signed a four-year contract with major media outlets throughout the world. Sit back and enjoy.

With the above hyperbole aside, what we’re seeing in Washington holds no humor. We had better wake up, folks, and resist. What can we do as individuals before lying becomes the norm, before “alternative facts” become acceptable? Start by calling the “speaker of the house” on at least a weekly basis in order to remind him that there will be a midterm election in 2018. Let’s get off our duffs before it’s too late. The speaker’s number is 202-225-3121.

Sincerely,

Alan M. Leary
