Timilty announces funding for Trailside, CAASA
By Canton CitizenSenator Walter F. Timilty last week announced the successful passage of FY18 budget amendments that will help fund the operations of two local organizations: Blue Hills Trailside Museum and the Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse (CAASA).
Trailside Museum will receive $250,000 in FY18 to cover operating costs, strengthening its ability to serve as a gateway to the Blue Hills Reservation.
“I am proud to advocate for the Trailside Museum alongside Representative Bill Galvin,” said Timilty. “The museum serves not only as a must-visit for my constituents, but for citizens from across the commonwealth — including students representing hundreds of our schools — seeking to learn more about the diverse array of wildlife that calls Massachusetts home.”
As part of an amendment to fund community substance abuse prevention coalitions across the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth District, Timilty helped secure $25,000 for CAASA in the state budget. These funds will contribute to the prevention and awareness efforts underway by the group to combat the deadly epidemic of opioid addiction and overdose.
“Opioid addiction does not discriminate,” said Timilty. “There is not a community across our commonwealth that has been spared from the chilling effects of this deadly trend. By collaborating with devoted community partners, these coalitions are working to both develop and implement an evidence-based approach to this most lethal of afflictions plaguing our neighborhoods.”
“In my work in the state Senate, the needs and concerns of the people I am privileged to represent are always first and foremost on my mind,” said Timilty. “I was proud to join Representative Galvin to advocate for the residents of Canton and serve as their voice during the budget process.”
