Dorchester man arrested after crime spree in Canton

By

Boston police arrested a Dorchester resident who allegedly broke into homes and vehicles in Canton and Milton and the Ninety Nine Restaurant in Canton last week.

According to the official website of the Boston Police Department, the suspect, identified as Daniel Mulholland, 50, was apprehended on Tuesday evening, August 29, after leading officers on a chase, both in a vehicle and on foot. Mulholland, who suffered an injury to his arm, also left a trail of blood that led officers to the scene of one of his alleged burglaries.

The vehicle that the suspect was driving in, a red Honda, had been reported stolen out of Canton, and police found property inside belonging to individuals from Milton and Canton. Detectives contacted Milton and Canton authorities and confirmed that the property had been stolen from multiple breaks in both towns over the past two days, including a break-in at the Ninety Nine Restaurant earlier on Tuesday morning. Mulholland is also suspected of several additional break-ins in the towns of Avon, Hingham, Hanover, Norwell, and a stolen car from Hyde Park.

Police arrested Mulholland and charged him with breaking and entering (daytime), receiving stolen property, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and refusal to submit.

Rash of break-ins reported Sept. 1

Canton police reported a rash of car breaks and two commercial break-ins that occurred in the early morning hours on Friday, September 1. The first incident was reported at 4:30 a.m. There were three reported break-ins in the Washington Street area between the center and the Village Shoppes and another in the High Street area. In addition to the car breaks, Channel Cleaners on Washington Street and Alpha Pizza on Neponset Street also reported break-ins. Lt. Patty Sherrill said detectives are trying to determine if the cases are connected.
