James G. Smith, 95, of Canton, formerly of Braintree, passed away February 8 at home surrounded by his family.

smith2Born and raised in Dorchester, he graduated from Boston English High School and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a test man for Verizon for many years before retiring. James has lived in Canton for the last four years and previously lived in Braintree for over 50 years where he was a member and senior deputy director of the Braintree Emergency Management Association (BEMA).

Beloved husband of the late Agnes M. (Green). Father of Dana J. Smith and his wife, Jo-Ellen, of Kingston and Laurie A. Driscoll and her husband, Mark, of Canton. Grandfather of James and Eric Smith and Matthew and Stephen Driscoll. He was pre-deceased by five brothers and two sisters. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass was held Friday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial private. Donations may be made in his memory to the Marge Crispin Social Day Care, 74 Pond St., Braintree, MA 02184. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
