Student walkout has ulterior motives
By Canton CitizenEditor’s note: The following letter was written in response to an email to parents from CHS Principal Derek Folan concerning yesterday’s National Student Walkout and is being printed at the request of the author.
Dear Principal Folan:
While what happened in Parkland of course was tragic, it is a well-known fact that it could have been prevented due to federal and local law enforcements’ lack of response and seriousness to Mr. Cruz’s mental illness well in advance of the tragedy. As well as their response on that day as the tragedy was unfolding. We all know it was preventable.
As you know, the job of public school teachers is to teach our children without religious or political bias. We send our “children” to public school to be taught a non-religious, non-biased, and non-political education in a safe environment, which is harder and harder to do today as many teachers blatantly preach their social and political biases in the classroom to our children everyday.
Though you don’t say it in your email, I believe this “walk out” is actually a veiled demonstration against the Second Amendment and is in keeping with the marching orders of the Democratic party, Teachers Union, mainstream media, and anti-Second Amendment activists to further an anti-Second Amendment narrative and political agenda that has no place in school.
I believe it has little to do with the safety of the “children,” or a “memorial” to those who died in the avoidable tragedy in Parkland, as the contents of some of the children’s speeches will demonstrate.
If this were going to be strictly a memorial to those who died in Parkland, I would support it. But it isn’t as you say in your email. This is a political event. I believe you are merely taking advantage of the tragedy in Parkland to use our children as pawns to further the false narrative that the Second Amendment is bad instead of doing your jobs and focusing on the mental stability of the individuals you employ and teach.
The focus should be on providing a safe environment for the rest of the students, staff and community, and for them to be safely educated and protected from those deemed mentally unstable, and not on a political rally with ulterior motives.
