Robodogs headed to robotics world championships
By Canton CitizenOne of the Canton High School robotics teams, the Canton Robodogs, are on their way to the FIRST Robotics World Championships! This is the first time since the team’s inception in 2013 that they have qualified for this prestigious event, which will be held April 24-28 in Detroit.
The Robodogs participate in the FIRST Technical Challenge (FTC), a robotics competition that can be found in 62 countries with over 1,400 teams encompassing 30,000-plus young men and women. FTC teams design, build and program robots to meet a challenge that changes every year. This year’s challenge, entitled “Relic Recovery,” was released in September to teams all around the world.
The Robodogs have been dominating this season at the local level, winning both of their state qualifying competitions and taking home the coveted Inspire Award at the Mass. State Championship. The Inspire Award is given to the team that embodied the ‘challenge’ of the FIRST Tech Challenge program. The Robodogs received this award for being a strong ambassador for FIRST programs and a role model FIRST team. Their innovative modular system and exceptional outreach programs made for a standout season!
In addition to the recognition the team received, CHS junior Yuheng Dong was named as a Dean’s List semifinalist for Massachusetts for his exceptional work this season and team coach Katie Healey received the coaches COMPASS Award for outstanding leadership.
